Pico the Parrot and the Magic of Kind Words
In the forest, there lived a parrot named Pico. Pico was loved for his beautiful singing and ability to mimic words. But Pico had one problem—when he got upset, he often said mean things to his friends.
One day, Max the Squirrel gave Pico a leaf and said,
“Pico, you can decorate your house with this leaf. It’s so pretty!”
But Pico replied angrily,
“It’s too small! I don’t need this!”
Max felt sad and left with the leaf.
Another day, Lucy the Rabbit brought Pico a carrot cake she had made.
“Pico, I made this for you. Enjoy!”
But Pico said coldly,
“I don’t like carrots. Take it away!”
Lucy looked hurt and walked away.
That night, Pico sat alone, thinking about how his friends seemed to avoid him.
“Why doesn’t anyone want to play with me?” Pico felt sad but didn’t understand why.
The next day, Wise Owl visited Pico.
“Pico, your words have hurt your friends. If you speak kindly, you’ll feel much happier with them.”
Pico thought about this and realized,
“My words made my friends sad. I’ll try to speak nicely from now on!”
Pico first went to Max the Squirrel.
“Max, I’m sorry about last time. Your leaf was really beautiful.”
Max smiled brightly.
Next, Pico found Lucy the Rabbit.
“Lucy, your carrot cake must have been delicious. Can I try some later?”
Lucy beamed and said,
“Of course, Pico!”
From that day on, Pico tried hard to speak kind words. He was soon happily playing with his friends again.
